Landlords Call Time On Popular Porchfield Pub

The landlords of the Sportsman's Rest pub in Porchfield have called last orders for the final time.

The major impact of coronavirus on the hospitality sector is the reason for the closure, according to David and Deborah, who run the pub.

They've been at the helm for four years, but say running the business in the current climate is no longer viable.

A post on the Sportsman's Rest Facebook page reads:

"As some of you now know, with a heavy & sad heart we have made the tough decision to stop trading as of Thursday evening 8th October 2020.

"We didn't make this decision likely but Covid has had a devastating impacted on trade losing our regular lunch & evening drinkers & diners plus no annual events to look forward to especially going into next year.

"The building maintenance and structural costs itself are high and the building requires investment and time.

"Deborah & David have had the honour & privilege of serving great customers over the four years and watching the business develop into more than it was when we moved in.

"We want to send a personal thank you to all our staff over the four years for helping build the business with your hard work and effort bringing a smile to peoples faces and simply making this pub different to others.

"From the bottom of our hearts we wish you all the best and thank you for being there and making the Sportsman’s what it should be.

"Take Care and fair well."
