Annie Wrenn

A talented Isle of Wight woodworker will feature in a new TV show presented by comedian Lee Mack which will air tonight (Thursday).

‘The Chop’, which is due to premiere on Sky History will see 10 of the country’s best carpenters gather in Epping Forest.

They will attempt to chop their way to the final to become crowned ‘Britain’s Top Woodworker’.

Islander Annie Wrenn, who lives in Bembridge, initially trained as a computer programmer but has nearly 30 years experience in woodworking.

She trained at the Building Crafts College in London where she became a Freeman on the fine woodwork course.

Since then she has worked in New York and London before moving to the Island where she has her own studio, she did a pop-up shop in Bembridge last year and hopes to do the same again in the near future.

Speaking exclusively to Isle of Wight Radio, Annie said:

"It [the show] has something for everyone there's history, craftsmanship, skill, drama with the highs and lows with the things that go on - Lee Mack is hilarious and a really really fantastic guy. Then you have the double act of Will and Rick so it is really funny and I think it will be a great opportunity for Islanders to relax and watch it...

"There are some really really talented craftsmen and it's a really great, light-hearted entertaining program."

Each week will unveil a series of challenges for the contestants to create objects as groups or individuals and one person gets voted off at the end of each episode.

The winner will have the chance to stage their own exhibition at the prestigious William Morris Gallery in London.

The show is hosted by Mack alongside Rick Edwards and Master Craftsmen William Hardie airs on Sky History at 9pm.
