The Isle of Wight is showing its support for England heroes Bukayo Saka, Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho.

The trio have been subjected to racial abuse online, having missed penalties during last night's Euro Championship final defeat.

England boss Gareth Southgate has criticised those who abused the stars, while Prince William has described social media posts as "abhorrent".

Police say they are investigating a number of posts sent to the players.

Former England stars, including Gary Linekar, have tweeted their support for the trio, and Islanders have also rallied behind the men.

Newport's Church on the Roundabout, which also offered encouragement before the game, has changed its signage to "God loves you: Saka, Sancho and Rashford."

The church tweeted to say: "God loves you and we love you. Enough said".

Islanders have also taken to social media to show their support. Commenting on Isle of Wight Radio's Church on the Roundabout post, Mark said:

"Hate football but this is epic, none of the guys should feel bad about last night's result. Would love to see any of the people spouting hate try to do better than our boys did."

Meanwhile, Joanna said:

"They shouldn't bang on about Saka's missed goal. Three were missed. The lads achieved so much.

"It's taken 53 years to get to the finals. The young lions have lifted the country's spirit over the few weeks they should be proud off all their achievements and come back roaring next year!!"

After taking an early lead in last night's game, England found themselves pegged back courtesy of a 67th minute Leonardo Bonucci equaliser.

Extra time wasn't enough for the Three Lions to strike again and, after an intense shoot-out, Southgate's side lost 3-2 on penalties.

Reacting to the defeat, Captain Harry Kane said the defeat would hurt for a long time.

Harry Maguire, meanwhile, has promised "England will be back".
