Isle Of Wight Parents Suing Government Over Trans Uniform Row

Isle of Wight parents have threatened legal action against the Government because their son was "confused" about a boy wearing a dress to school.

Nigel and Sally Rowe hit the headlines back in 2017 when they withdrew their then six-year-old child from school after he came home “confused as to why a boy was now a girl”.

The Christian couple pulled him out of his Church of England primary and have been home schooling him ever since.

Four years on, they have now instructed a legal team to seek a judicial review of what they say is "a failure by ministers to challenge the local authority's transgender guidelines."

According to The Times, the Rowes are seeking action over the Department for Education's refusal to intervene in the case and the promotion of Cornwall Schools Transgender Guidance.

The guidelines state that it is “extremely important, as a matter of fairness, respect and inclusion, to ensure that the correct gender, name and pronouns are used uniformly to address trans people” and that trans pupils “should be able to wear the uniform of their true gender”.

The couple say they are not transphobic but, speaking to The Times, say the guidance should be overhauled and replaced with something that “protects children from partisan materials that lead them down a road of irreversible harm”.

A Department for Education spokesman told The Times:

“We recognise that issues relating to gender identity can be complex and sensitive.

“Schools are best placed to work with parents, pupils and public services to decide what is best for individual children — and what is best for all others in the school."
