Isle Of Wight Covid Cases Rise — Further 65 Recorded

The Isle of Wight's COVID case numbers are on the rise, with another 65 recorded in today's (Friday's) figures.

The number is up on yesterday's (Thursday's) total of 45.  Since the start of the pandemic (March 2020), a total of 7,294 cases have been registered here.

The Island's rolling rate is down slightly compared to yesterday, however. It currently stands at 107.9 per 100,000 population.

The rate is used to measure patterns or trends in the Government's coronavirus figures over a period of seven days.

In comparison, the UK average is 344.8 per 100,000.

A further 2,248 vaccine doses were given in the last week on the Island, as previously reported.

Walk-in clinics have been introduced for those aged over 18, who are yet to have either their first or second dose of a jab.

Meanwhile, coronavirus-related staff absence has led to a further 72 Red Funnel sailings being cancelled.

From Monday (19), it will no longer be a legal requirement to wear face coverings, although it will still be compulsory for much of the Island's transport and health sector.
