Islanders 'Encouraged' To Prepare For Flooding And High Winds

The Isle of Wight Council is encouraging residents to prepare for possible flooding.

It follows a flood alert issued by the Environment Agency for the Island's coast.

Tomorrow (Tuesday) afternoon's tide at 1pm is higher than normal.

For one hour either side of high water, flooding will affect sea front roads, esplanades and car parks across the Island.

Cowes: Water will be high up slipways, affecting Medina Road and the Floating Bridge. The Environment Agency is recommending residents install flood protection.

East Cowes: Sea water forced up through drains may cause minor impacts to the road at Albany Road.

Yarmouth: The ferry terminal car park will also flood. At 1:46 am on Wednesday‚ the tide may be of a similar magnitude.

Island Roads are currently ensuring strategic sandbag locations are fully stocked and accessible to the public.

Further advice has been issued online by the IW Council.

The Met office has also issued Yellow Wind Warnings for Tuesday and Wednesday (December 7 and 8), with gusts of up to 80mph forecast.
