HMP Isle Of Wight's 'Hidden Heroes' To Be Recognised

The 'hidden heroes' of the Isle of Wight's prison service are being celebrated today (Wednesday).

The event is marking the hard work and efforts of prison staff across the country.

Prisoners and staff have had to adapt to a number of challenges brought on because of the pandemic.

HMP Isle of Wight will be marking the day with an event at the prison, accompanied by a flag raising ceremony.

Speaking to Isle of Wight Radio, prison governor Dougie Graham praised his Island team for their work - especially during the last 18 months.

He said:

"Prison staff and probation staff are often not well recognised for the work they do throughout the community and during the pandemic - I think it's been important to recognise that work among the work of lots of other people.

"Today is about recognising them as hidden heroes because of the work they do and the extraordinary work they've done during the last 18 months."
