Friends Fund TV To Assist In Helping To Educate Patients

The Friends of St Mary’s generously funded £875 for a television equipped with Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa to help patients to understand and educate themselves on good foot health and other healthy lifestyle choices.

With the continued increase in patients diagnosed with diabetes mellitus (DM), coupled with the increasing demands of managing the condition and its symptoms, healthcare professionals have highlighted a need to educate patients so patients can become experts in their condition.

By showcasing in the podiatry waiting room educational and motivational messaging which is designed to encourage behavioural change and promote healthy lifestyle choices and good self-care practices could help reduce the costly implications of DM, such as diabetic foot ulceration.

Stephanie Stanley, Clinical/Professional lead for Podiatry, Southern Health Foundation NHS Trust said:

“Thank you so much for the wonderful TV from the Friends of St Mary’s.

"It will be used in the podiatry waiting room to give public health messages about ways to achieve good foot health, to enhance mobility and assist with maintaining independence.

“We also share our rooms with the musculoskeletal physio and spinal triage teams, and they too will be able to enjoy the wonderful opportunity to spread their public health messages too.

“We are very grateful and can see this TV will be a real help to our patients Thank you so much.”
