FLOOD WARNING: Watch The Operation To Clear-Up Flooding In Binstead

Severe disruption to travel and property owners is continuing in Binstead.

Click on the video, above, to hear Isle of Wight Radio's Oliver Dyer describing the situation on Binstead Road, leading through Binstead to Ryde.

This evening, a Flood Alert has been issued by the Environment Agency for St. John's, Ryde.

Staff said flooding is possible for: Monktonmead Brook at St Johns Road, St John's Station and Park Road.

In an announcement at 6.18pm, they continued:

"The water level in the Monktonmead Brook is high and rising.

"Heavy, intense rain has fallen with over 54mm in the last four hours recorded at Ryde.

"This is an exceptional amount of rain.

"In the next hour, water will begin to flow across the railway tracks, upstream of St Johns Station.

"Surface water may already be causing impacts as drains become overloaded.

"Given the amount of rain which has affected the area, in the next 3 hours the river will flood station depot buildings.

"It could also flood industrial buildings and compounds which are located next to the railway line near Park Road.

"Further thundery showers are still possible.

"Water levels will remain very high for at least the next couple of hours and may continue to rise until at least 20:00 (25/07/2021).

"Environment Agency staff will be in the area to keep the Monktonmead Brook clear of reported blockages.

"Please consider moving vehicles from depots located next to the river and railway line.

"This Flood Alert is likely to be updated to a Flood Warning."

*Update*
