Coronavirus: Rise In Isle Of Wight Hospital Deaths

Another coronavirus patient has died at St Mary's Hospital.

It takes the Isle of Wight's monthly (January) death toll, when combined with fatalities in the community, to 35.

The latest hospital death came on Sunday (17), according to figures from NHS England.

It means there have now been 89 deaths at St Mary's, linked to the illness, since the start of the pandemic.

Separate data published earlier shows another two people have died with COVID-19 in care homes. As Isle of Wight Radio previously reported, 54 people have now passed away in the community on the Island.

There have now been 143 people coronavirus-related fatalities here since the start of the pandemic.

According to the the latest case numbers, the Island has dropped to 17th on the Government's rolling list of the worst affected areas. It was fourth just days ago.

The seven-day average, per 100,000, has fallen to 836.6.

Coronavirus case numbers are expected to be published later.
