Coronavirus: Isle Of Wight Death Toll At 90 As Care Home Fatalities Rise

Another coronavirus-related death has been recorded in an Isle of Wight care home.

It takes the total number of people to have passed away on the Island after contracting COVID-19 to 90.

According to the latest Office for National Statistics (ONS) data, 45 residents have now died with coronavirus in care homes on the Isle of Wight.

Three fatalities have been recorded at home, and one at Mountbatten Hospice.

ONS data records the number of deaths which occurred by October 9, but not registered until October 17. These figures differ from those produced daily by NHS England, which records hospital deaths.

As Isle of Wight Radio reported last week, there have now been 41 COVID-19 patient deaths at St Mary’s Hospital, in Newport.

The overall number of confirmed cases on the Island - since the start of the pandemic - stands at 542.

That figures rose by nine yesterday (Monday).

As of the end of September, 63 patients had been discharged from St Mary's Hospital, having recovered from coronavirus.
