Coronavirus: Isle Of Wight Care Home Deaths Rise

Another two people have passed away on the Isle of Wight after contracting coronavirus.

In the week ending January 8, there were 13 deaths recorded in Island care homes. Of those, two (15%) mentioned COVID-19.

New Office for National Statistics (ONS) data has been published this morning (Tuesday).

Since the start of the pandemic, the figures show 50 coronavirus-related deaths have occurred in care homes, three at home and one at the Island's hospice.

In total, 142 people have now died on the Isle of Wight after testing positive for the illness. St Mary's Hospital has recorded 88 of those deaths.

It takes the number of deaths this month (January) - linked to the illness - to 34.

According to the the latest data, the Island has dropped to 17th on the Government's rolling list of the worst affected areas. It was fourth just days ago.

The seven-day average, per 100,000, has fallen to 836.6.
