Car On Roof Following Crash Near To Newport's Monkey Haven

A car is on its roof this afternoon (Thursday), having overturned following a crash on Staplers Road.

The incident took place near to the Monkey Haven Primate Rescue Centre.

An Isle of Wight Radio listener said members of the public have alerted the emergency services to the situation.

Car from Ryde are unable to pass, with traffic turning around, and while vehicles have been passing in the opposite direction, the road is likely to be closed both shortly.

We have requested further information from the emergency services.

A spokesperson for the Fire Service:

"Newport firefighters were called at 1.18pm this afternoon following an RTC on Staplers Road. 

"One casualty was treated by paramedics as HIWFRS made the scene safe alongside police. 

"Crews returned to station following the stop message at 13:41."

A spokesperson for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary subsequently stated:

"We were called at 1.26pm today by colleagues from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service reporting a single vehicle collision on Staplers Road.

"No-one was reported as injured."

A spokesperson for the Ambulance Service added:

"An ambulance and operational commander were sent to the scene. One person was conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital."
