Breakfast To Go: Lake Lodge To Make Way For Home Comforts

A bed and breakfast in a picturesque part of the Isle of Wight could be turned into a home.

The seven-bed Haytor Lodge on the Cliff Path in Lake could close if the Isle of Wight Council grants planning permission.

Documents submitted to the authority say the business is not generating a sustainable income for its owners, Mr and Mrs Hammant, to continue running it as they look to retire.

It has been on the market for over a year but has had no interest from any of the viewings which have taken place.

Estate agent, Hose Rhodes Dickson, said the level of interest in the property has dropped recently and the hotel and guest house market on the Island is quiet.

Documents from planning agent, Andrew White Planning Consultancy, said the accommodation could be described as basic and all the rooms would require radical upgrading to meet modern standards.

The B&B has relied, the planning agents say, on a core group of regular guests who have returned year after year.

The building could be a three or four-bed house.

You can view the plans, 23/00425/FUL, on the council’s website. Comments can be viewed until April 25.
