BAE Donate New Incident Unit To Support Lifesaving Search And Rescue Charity

Cowes based BAE Systems has donated one of its site vans to local charity Isle of Wight Search and Rescue to help with their important work on the Island.

The Isle of Wight Search and Rescue charity comprises a team of skilled volunteers who assist Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary and other agencies in searches for vulnerable missing persons on the Island.

The team is on call 24/7, 365 days a year supporting Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary searching for high risk, vulnerable missing people across the Isle of Wight.

Last year the team carried out a total of 18 high risk missing person searches across the island searching terrain such as paths, fields, woodlands, streams as well as urban areas and within buildings, etc in all weather conditions.

Dean Terrett, Chair, Isle of Wight Search and Rescue said:

“We are grateful to BAE Systems for the donation of the van , which is already being put to use supporting the local community.

"We rely on fundraising and donations for our operational running costs and equipment and our volunteers pay for their own personal equipment, training and expenses.

"We are totally reliant on support, donations of equipment and fundraising to be able to continue the work we do.”

Scott Jamieson, Managing Director of BAE Systems’ Maritime Services business, said:

“We are committed to supporting our local communities and helping voluntary and charitable organisations whenever we can.

"Isle of Wight Search and Rescue provides an invaluable service to residents and visitors to the Island and we are delighted to have been able to donate one of our vans for their volunteers to use in their rescue work.”
